The research activity is directed to the study of the mechanisms of biologic and pathophysiologic changes and adaptive mechanisms in critical illness, from compensated stages to extreme conditions of non-equilibrium, with particular attention to severe trauma, major surgical procedures, shock and sepsis. A practical implication is the optimization of metabolic and cardiorespiratory therapy.
